UI/UX DESIGN : THEORETICAL FRAMEWORK
My design project tackles a crucial challenge in academic research: making complex theoretical frameworks understandable and practical for new student designers. The goal was to transform abstract concepts into an engaging, accessible mobile app prototype.
I will select one theoretical framework and design a minimum 10-screen app that serves as a practical, student-centered learning tool for CPUT peers. The app must clearly present the framework's definition, key principles, application steps, tools, and terminology, all supported by compelling infographics and designed with a student-appropriate UX.
Importantly, the aesthetic will reflect the CPUT brand.
Key required deliverables for this design process include a User Journey, a CPUT-adapted Moodboard, a Wireframe Prototype, Draft Screens, and an App Walk-through Video. This project showcases my ability to create intuitive, branded, and pedagogically sound digital learning solutions.
Chosen framework : PHENOMENOLOGY
I have selected Phenomenology as the theoretical framework for my mobile learning application. This choice is deliberate, as Phenomenology, the study of lived experience and how people perceive and interpret the world around them, is fundamentally relevant to understanding user interaction and design context. The app will demystify this complex philosophical approach by clearly defining key concepts like the 'epoche' (bracketing assumptions) and the pursuit of the 'essence' of an experience. I will use visual aids to illustrate the steps involved in phenomenological research, such as descriptive writing and interpretive analysis. Ultimately, the prototype will equip fellow CPUT students with a powerful lens to approach design problems by prioritizing and understanding the user's subjective experience as the primary source of data.
